Save the Date: Synod COP 30 Prayer Vigil
Climate change is not a distant problem. It’s here. It’s affecting our communities, our neighbours, and God’s creation right now. As followers of Christ, we are called to act – to care for the earth as an act of worship and justice.
Members of the Uniting Church community are warmly invited to take part in a Synod Prayer Vigil to pray for the COP 30 (world climate change gathering) in Brazil.
Care for the earth and action on climate change is one of the Synod’s future directions priorities, and, the Uniting Church believes, a responsibility of Christian faith.
Given the significance of decisions made at COP 30 for our planet, and all its creatures, the Moderator, Rev Mata Havea Hiliau is hosting a prayer vigil on the evening of Thursday November 20, during the final days of the COP meeting.
The service is an opportunity to:
- Consciously gather up our concerns and hopes for our and the world’s future in prayer to God
- Seek as a whole church community for good and wise decisions to be made at COP 30 and beyond
- Offer ourselves afresh to be part of the solution to our prayers by caring for creation as part of our discipleship and mission
Those who are able, are invited to gather at the Tilba Street church of Auburn Tongan Parish for a light meal from 6.00pm with the Prayer Service commencing at 7.00pm.
The service will be live streamed to a number of host congregations across the Synod. Others will be able to view the service in small groups or in their own homes.
