To mark a remarkable 140 years of educating and empowering girls, MLC School in Sydney has launched a new bursary to support students commencing Year 11 in 2026. The 140-Year Anniversary Bursary will fully cover tuition fees for the final two years of schooling, offering a transformative opportunity for girls who demonstrate academic excellence and whose families are not in a financial position to afford the school’s fees.
The bursary is both merit and means-tested, reflecting the school’s commitment to academic excellence, inclusion and opportunity. Open to Australian residents, including current Year 10 students at MLC School, the bursary will support recipients through either the Higher School Certificate (HSC) or International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme.
Principal Lisa Moloney highlighted the bursary as a meaningful way to honour the school’s long-standing legacy.
“Being open and inclusive is a cornerstone of MLC School. By providing more opportunities for girls to access the exceptional educational experience we offer, we are staying true to our values and history,” said Ms Moloney. “The bursary will fully cover the fees for girls with academic potential to complete their final two years of study, whether in the HSC or IB. We encourage as many girls as possible to apply. We are thrilled to welcome more students to our school, as we understand the positive impact this will have on our community.”
In alignment with the school’s ethos of placing the student at the centre of their learning journey, successful applicants will be well-rounded individuals—students who not only show academic promise but who also seek to immerse themselves in the school’s diverse co-curricular offerings and thrive in a values-based, girls-focused environment.
Rev Stuart Bollom, Director of Mission for the Uniting Church, praised the bursary as part of a wider mission across Uniting Church schools to increase accessibility and equity in education.
“This bursary for MLC’s 140th Anniversary is a good example of the many scholarships and bursaries available at Uniting Church schools for students who otherwise would not be able to attend these schools. Many go to First Nations, refugee and migrant students. It would be terrific if a Uniting Church family could benefit from this opportunity,” Rev Bollom said.
The bursary reflects MLC School’s commitment to empowering the next generation of fearless, compassionate, and innovative young women. Rooted in the School’s mission—“to educate and inspire young women to be fearless thinkers with moral courage and compassion, to be agents of change in their own lives and the lives of others”—this bursary is an investment in the future of girls who are driven to make a positive impact on the world.
If you know a young woman who may be interested in this opportunity, we encourage you to share the details of this 140-Year Anniversary Bursary. The application process will include an entrance examination, a parental statement, and financial documentation.
